SAMSUN KARADENIZ ROTARY CLUB
2020-21 JERSEY COW PROJECT

PROJECT NAME

GIVE A WOMAN A COW AND WATCH HER CHANGE THE WORD

ROTARY FOUNDATION GRANT NUMBER:  GG2016079

GOALS AND TARGETS

Providing 50 Jersey cows to 25 women, picked from 5 different rural areas around Samsun, who have low income and are willing to put effort on animal husbandry. It was determined that the high priority in selection will be given to women who are widow or have family members with disability. Apart from this, families with low income who have experienced war casualties (lost family members, veteran relatives, etc) will be highly considered during selection process. One of the main targets of this project is to increase the number of jersey cows which are considered as the best suited breed for Black Sea coast conditions. It is important to note that jersey cows consume less amount of natural resources with less carbon dioxide release.

BACKGROUND

People, working with animal husbandry, do not have good economic conditions.

Since the people from rural areas do not have enough milk, they do not find the possibility to market their product.

There exists no suitable job for women.

Unfortunately, people leave rural areas (their home) and look for opportunities in cities which eventually deteriorates the relationship between family members.
